How to divorce if your spouse lives in Japan?

My friend is Japanese but lives here in the UK. He married a Japanese lady who left him and went back to Japan. How can he divorce her?


He married in the UK. Does he also have to divorce her in Japan/register the divorce with the Japanese embassy in the UK?

In most countries, you can file for divorce using grounds of abandonment after a period of time. File in your own country.
